Then new President Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009. A history had just happened, installing the first African-American Leader of the nation, who is expected to break the boundaries among the races.
A crowd of more than two million people gathered at the US Capitol to witness the taking over of Obama’s administration. After he was sworn in the Presidency, the crowd roared and he received a 21-gun salute.
“Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America,” expressed Obama. “America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more. To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. We understand that greatness is never a given, it must be earned,” he added.
Obama has a strong message of re-building the nation and finding ways to stop the war to move forward to address the much bigger issue which is the economic condition of the country.
“Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred,” Obama said. “Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to mark hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age.”
Obama immediately gave action on the policy about the closure of Bush’s “war on terror” internment camp at Guantanamo Bay. The inaugural address given by Obama was strong and vocal. The believed in him, some wept as he talked to them through their heart.
After the address, the President accompanied his predecessor and his wife to the chopper to fly them Texas, their homeland.
